Create your first job
Create a job, set its price, schedule it, and assign a tech — in FieldOps the job is where the money starts.
Updated Jul 30, 2026
In FieldOps the job is the hub: its price is the source of truth, quotes and invoices are created from it, and payments attach to its invoice. Get the job right and the paperwork follows.
- 1Open Jobs and click Create Job.
- 2Give it a title, pick the customer (or create one inline), and add a short work description. Job location shows the customer’s saved address by default. If they have other saved properties, expand Change location to choose one. If no address is saved, open Add address in customer record, save it in the new tab, then use Refresh saved locations in your job draft.
- 3Set the job price if you know it — you can always set or change it later on the job page.
- 4Pick a date and time, or leave it unscheduled and drag it onto the calendar later from the unscheduled tray.
- 5Assign a technician if the work isn't yours. Assigned techs see the job on their own dashboard and job list.
- 6Open More details for access instructions, job type, priority, a custom job number, or internal staff notes. These optional fields keep their values when you collapse the section.
From the job page you can then generate a quote or invoice, log materials and expenses, attach photos and checklists, capture a customer signature, and collect payment. The job summary adapts to its status: active jobs show visit, technician, and access details; completed jobs show the latest activity note, photo counts and links, and payment status for permitted roles. Web job pages use Overview, Work, Billing, Activity and Schedule tabs. Customer and location details stay in Overview; photos and checklists are in Work; notes and check-ins are in Activity; assignments and visits are in Schedule. Drafts remain when you switch tabs. Use the notes, photos, and billing links to finish follow-up. Offline summaries ask you to reconnect for current closeout records. Job progress shows Scheduled, Traveling, On site, and Completed. When live travel is enabled, On my way starts sharing after the online status is confirmed and location permission is granted. Arrival or Stop sharing ends the trip. Browser sharing requires the page to stay visible. Text customer opens a tracking message for you to review and send. Owners and admins can see the job’s active team trips. Customer contact details and the job location stay near the top. Use Get directions for Google Maps, Open in Apple Maps, or Copy address in the location section. The customer section labels and formats the phone number, with Call and Text beside it. Owners and admins can open the customer record from the customer name and use Add description when job details are missing. If no separate property is selected, the page uses the customer address and labels it. If a selected property has no available address, confirm the location before traveling.
Workflow highlights the next step: Schedule job, On my way under Travel to the job, I’ve arrived under Confirm arrival, then Review & complete job. Travel and arrival use compact inline actions matching the phone app. The desktop job page uses a narrower layout and tighter spacing; phone controls stay comfortably tappable. Texting the customer is optional. With an active shared trip, Text customer prepares the customer portal tracking link for review in your messaging app; desktop users can also copy the message. Nothing is sent automatically, and the live map opens from the link. Automatic status texts remain dependent on messaging setup. Completion reviews your existing notes, after photos, checklist, and signature without blocking you from finishing. An existing signature is reused; otherwise the existing signature prompt appears after completion and can be skipped. Completed jobs lead office users to billing and technicians to the work record. Their clock-in controls are under Track additional work; any running timer stays visible.
The Jobs page defaults to Open. Use Today for open scheduled work in time order (all-day first), Unscheduled for work needing a schedule, or Needs attention for missing addresses, unassigned technicians, and overdue work. Completed, canceled, and archived jobs stay out of these three work views. All jobs includes every status; you can narrow it with the status choices. View counts are before filters. Selecting a work view clears previous filters. Search by job title, job number, customer, or address. On phones, expand Filters for assignee, date range, and archived work. Visit dates and assignments are used for multi-visit jobs; each job appears once, showing its first pending visit today in Today. Job cards and rows show the service address and a suggested next step that opens job details. Quote, Edit, and More remain available where your role allows. Settings → Company lets you choose solo or team work and a default job assignee. Solo mode suppresses staffing warnings even when your workspace has other accounts. Until you save those preferences, a sole owner/admin remains the automatic default. These choices never change existing jobs or permissions. Offline or unavailable visit data uses saved job dates and suppresses uncertain assignment warnings.
GPS check-ins are included on Pro and Max, and during the free trial. On my way, I’ve arrived, and job completion record a check-in with the team member and time; when you allow location, the entry also includes a map link. This works in supported desktop and mobile browsers and the Expo app. Allow location for FieldOps in your browser or device when prompted. If location is denied or unavailable, the status still saves and the timeline shows No location shared. Location is captured at these actions, not continuously. Native App Store distribution is still pending.
Technicians only see jobs assigned to them, and job pricing is hidden from them unless you turn on the visibility toggle — see roles and permissions.
